About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Associate Director to join our team at Penguin Recruitment. As a key member of our heritage team, you will be responsible for leading and managing a range of projects related to built heritage and development management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead on a number of projects from initial scoping advice to the submission of applications for planning permission and listed building consent.
  • Work closely with colleagues and clients to manage schemes and provide expert advice on how to develop with heritage assets sustainably.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the legislative and policy framework for the historic environment and up-to-date knowledge of relevant guidance and case law.
  • Assess the significance and setting of heritage assets and provide written communication to clients and stakeholders.
  • Engage with colleagues, clients, and the general public in a variety of environments.
Requirements
  • Degree and/or post-graduate qualification in conservation, heritage, or a related field, with demonstrable relevant experience.
  • Strong technical background relating to a wide range of historic buildings and areas, including designated and non-designated heritage assets.
  • Experience of providing expert advice on how to develop with heritage assets sustainably.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of architectural history and strong technical awareness of different building typologies, including vernacular techniques and materials.
  • Excellent written communication skills with demonstrable experience of assessing the significance and setting of heritage assets.
