Main Responsibilities
  • Providing Individualised Care: Deliver tailored care plans that cater to each patient's unique needs and preferences, ensuring regular updates and collaborative involvement from patients and their families.
  • Collaborating with the Care Team: Work effectively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless coordination of patient care, promoting a safe and supportive environment.
  • Quality and Governance: Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and adhere to clinical governance standards, driving excellence in practice.
  • Task Management and Delegation: Prioritise and delegate nursing duties within the shift, ensuring efficient task management and a safe working environment.
  • Escalation of Concerns: Promptly address and report concerns regarding patient well-being, incidents, or staffing issues, upholding the highest standards of care.
  • Professional Development: Engage in continuous learning to meet revalidation requirements, stay current in practice, and enhance professional growth.
  • Staff Support and Mentorship: Assist new, junior, and agency staff in adhering to care standards, completing induction programs, and developing essential skills.
  • Mandatory Training: Fulfil all required training and competency assessments on time, maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Supervision and Reflective Practice: Engage in regular clinical supervision, fostering reflective practice and enhancing overall performance.
  • Safeguarding Policies: Be aware of and follow safeguarding policies and procedures, attending necessary training sessions.
  • Legislative Compliance: Ensure adherence to relevant legislation, including the Mental Health Act, Capacity Act, and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
  • Medicines Management: Follow company policies on medicines management, prioritising patient safety and well-being.
  • Managing Challenging Behaviour: Handle challenging behaviour according to established company policies, providing support to junior staff and developing effective de-escalation strategies.
Requirements of the Registered Mental Health Nurse
  • Qualifications and Experience: Hold a valid registration as a Mental Health or Learning Disability Nurse, with 6-12 months of post-registration experience, active NMC registration, and completion of preceptorship or an equivalent program.
  • NMC Standards and Professional Practices: Possess knowledge of NMC standards, guidelines, and professional practices, demonstrating a commitment to ongoing professional development.
