Senior Research Scientist in Neurodegenerative Disease

London, Greater London, United Kingdom Imperial College London Full time

The post offers an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and ambitious scientist to investigate the relationship between pathological protein aggregates associated with Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease, and how aggregate removal may be enhanced as a therapeutic strategy for disease intervention.

We are seeking a talented candidate with a strong background in cellular/molecular neuroscience and experience in protein aggregation, iPSC cultures, or neuropathology of dementia to lead one or more projects in the Ye lab at Imperial College London.

The successful candidate will use a multidisciplinary approach to investigate proteostasis mechanisms and the effect of therapeutic intervention strategies on pathological aggregates in post-mortem donor samples and iPSC-differentiated neurons.

Key responsibilities will include building on existing skills and experience to address major components of the project independently, presenting research findings as written reports, at conferences, and as published manuscripts, and taking initiative in the planning of research with clear and timely communications to the Group Leader and relevant researchers.

As a Research Associate in the Ye lab, you will have access to a range of cutting-edge technologies for 2D and 3D super-resolution imaging capabilities, dedicated iPSC culture facilities in the Sir Michael Uren Hub, and a collegial, team-oriented working environment.

We offer excellent career development opportunities, including support from the Postdoc and Fellows Development Centre and Imperial and UK DRI ECR Communities, and the opportunity to mentor, supervise, and teach under- and postgraduate students.

Key requirements include a PhD in cellular/molecular neuroscience with experience in protein aggregation, iPSC cultures, or neuropathology of dementia, and experimental expertise working with iPSC-differentiated neuronal cultures, basic biochemistry, and molecular biology.

This is a fixed-term position for up to two years, and the successful candidate will be expected to work independently and as part of a team to achieve project goals.
