About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant/Associate with a strong background in bioinformatics and computational genomics to join our team at the British Neuroscience Association. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading projects characterizing the relationship between brain and blood cell types to interpret Parkinson's disease.

The ideal candidate will have a relevant MSc in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Mathematics, or a closely related discipline, or possess equivalent research, industrial, or commercial experience. A PhD is required for the Research Associate level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead one or more projects characterizing the relationship between brain and blood cell types to interpret Parkinson's disease.
  • Collaborate with the research group of Dr. Nathan Skene to identify the cell types and intracellular processes affected by the genetic loci underlying neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Analyze large-scale 'omics datasets to address major research questions related to Parkinson's disease.
  • Develop and implement new computational methods to analyze complex biological data.

Requirements

  • Relevant MSc in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Mathematics, or a closely related discipline.
  • Equivalent research, industrial, or commercial experience.
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, R, or MATLAB.
  • Experience with high-performance computing environments.
  • Proficiency with a broad range of bioinformatics tools and databases.
