Job Summary
Primary Care Management Solutions Ltd is seeking a motivated and experienced Healthcare Assistant to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our clinicians in delivering exceptional healthcare services.
Main Responsibilities
As a Healthcare Assistant, you will be responsible for:
- Providing patient care and support under the supervision of registered healthcare professionals
- Assisting in minor surgery clinics and chronic disease management clinics
- Running chronic disease management clinics
- Conducting vital signs measurements, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, height, and weight
- Referring patients to weight management services
- Performing peak flow measurements, venepuncture, and urinalysis
- Collecting specimens and applying dressings as directed
- Monitoring blood glucose levels and providing patient education
- Assisting clinicians in emergency management of patients
- Enabling patients to access appropriate professional services within the practice team
- Acting as a chaperone and appreciating the principles of healthy living
- Providing relevant health promotion literature to patients
- Linking with local health promotion activities, including cervical, breast, and bowel screening
- Carrying out NHS health checks, CVD, and diabetic checks in line with local incentive schemes and extended primary care contracts
- Administering flu and pneumococcal vaccines as per TWN CCG/practice guidelines
- Collecting clinical waste, samples, and sharps bins and storing them in designated areas
- Responding to spillages and maintaining infection control standards
- Setting up and fitting 24-hour ABPM devices and performing spirometry
Non-Clinical/Administrative Responsibilities
You will also be responsible for:
- Ensuring stock items are ordered and provided in GP and treatment rooms
- Maintaining clinical equipment and ensuring servicing is undertaken
- Following infection control standards
- Contributing to new ideas to improve patient care
- Providing administrative support to clinicians and non-clinicians
- Liaising with healthcare professionals
- Filing and record-keeping as appropriate
- Undertaking template entry as directed
- Helping nursing staff order medicines, vaccines, and clinical supplies
- Checking vaccine fridge temperature and drug expiry dates
- Following up DNAs in accordance with practice protocol
- Working effectively in a team, including providing reception cover and interacting with colleagues in a professional manner
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
- Qualified to NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care
- Literacy and numeracy skills
- Fluent spoken and written English
- Ability to accurately receive, record, and relay information
- Computer skills, including working with the EMIS Web clinical system
- Ability to work on own initiative and organise delegated work
- Healthcare support experience, phlebotomy experience, and experience of working in a practice setting
- Knowledge of local community and understanding of a multi-cultural, racially diverse population
- Awareness of health and safety issues in the workplace
- Understanding of the need to keep and maintain accurate records
- Understanding of equal opportunities and patient confidentiality
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary, multi-agency primary care team
- Polite and helpful manner
- Enthusiasm to learn and openness to explore alternative working practices
- Flexibility with working hours
- Hepatitis B/Covid vaccine or willingness to undergo a vaccination programme
