Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom Home Care Direct Full time

We are seeking a part-time support worker/team leader to join our client's support package in the Cambridge area. The successful candidate will work 20 hours per week, with a rotating schedule that may vary each week. The work hours will be between 9:30am and 6:30pm, with a pay rate of £14.40 per hour and £15.05 per hour at weekends. Additionally, team leaders will receive an extra £173 per month.

Our client is a charming gentleman in his 70s who sustained a traumatic brain injury and orthopaedic injuries in a road traffic accident. He is a lifelong resident of Cambridge and enjoys staying informed about news, politics, and current affairs. He appreciates engaging in conversations about these topics, as well as history and the places he has visited. He also loves going out to different places for lunch and coffee.

Our client sometimes finds communication challenging due to dysarthria, so support workers should be patient, have a strong command of English, and possess excellent communication skills.

As a support worker/team leader, you will assist our client in engaging in community activities, including social, leisure, and exercise pursuits. You will also provide support with domestic tasks such as cleaning, food preparation, laundry, and ironing. While our client is generally mobile, his mobility decreases when he is fatigued, necessitating the use of an attendant-propelled wheelchair outdoors.

You will work under the guidance of medical personnel, therapists, and other professionals to assist with prescribed treatment and rehabilitation programs, which will include managing dressings as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct quality checks of support worker tasks and notes
  • Organize and chair team meetings
  • Check and authorize monthly timesheets
  • Approve annual leave and arrange cover as needed
  • Serve as the point of contact for staff regarding sick leave
  • Complete monthly wellbeing audits
  • Participate in the recruitment and induction of new staff

You will also be required to drive our client's adapted motability vehicle and have access to a vehicle due to the client's village location, where there are limited transport links.

  • An enhanced DBS disclosure is required for this vacancy (expense to be met by Home Care Direct)
  • You must be a driver aged 25 years or over with a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle due to the location of the client
  • Good use of and understanding of English and communication skills due to client needs
  • Prepared to commit to long-term care for one client in a person-centred way
  • Willing to be trained to CQC standards to meet the client's needs
  • Respect Company policies and procedures
  • Be reliable, non-judgmental, caring, responsible, and compassionate
  • Committed to confidentiality and to treat the client with dignity and respect
