About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Museum Documentation and Data Manager to join our team at the Ashmolean Museum, responsible for managing the documentation of approximately 500,000 items in the Department of Antiquities.

As a key member of the collections management team, you will work closely with curators and collections staff to ensure that all documentation tasks are completed to the highest standards.

This is a permanent part-time position, working 22.5 hours per week, and requires a strong understanding of museum collections databases and/or collections management software.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with archaeological objects and relevant terminologies, as well as excellent data entry skills and attention to detail.

In addition to maintaining existing paper records, you will create and enhance digital records to agreed standards in accordance with the Museum's Collections Management Policy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining and updating existing paper records, including accessions registers, index cards, handlists, catalogues, and object history files
  • Creating and enhancing digital records to agreed standards
  • Providing guidance and oversight to curators and collections staff on documentation tasks

Requirements:

  • Experience working in a museum or cultural heritage institution
  • Familiarity with collections databases and/or collections management software
  • Knowledge of national data standards for museum collections, especially relating to Arts Council England's UK Museum Accreditation Scheme
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
