Job Title: Head of Academic Standards and Quality Management

Job Summary:

Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to provide leadership to our Academic Standards and Quality team. As the Head of Academic Standards and Quality, you will be responsible for ensuring the university maintains its reputation for excellence and compliance with external quality assurance frameworks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Academic Standards and Quality team within the Education and Student Experience Directorate.
  • Ensure appropriate and up-to-date quality assurance, regulatory, and legal frameworks in line with external requirements.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on quality assurance systems and processes so they operate effectively, efficiently, and provide key information Birkbeck requires for internal and external reviews.
  • Act as the professional service strategic lead for student complaints, conduct, and appeals matters, covering all aspects of student behavior and concerns, including both academic and non-academic issues.
  • Represent Birkbeck in external quality assurance bodies and national groups.

Requirements:

  • Experience in managing quality assurance and enhancement in higher education.
  • The ability to manage complex workloads and motivate a team, working with staff at all levels to ensure centrally agreed policy is implemented and adopted fairly and consistently across all faculties and schools.

Contract:

Open-ended, permanent contract. Full-time (35 hours a week). Hybrid working with two days a week on site.
