Head of Academic Standards and Quality

Birkbeck University of London is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to lead our Academic Standards and Quality team. As the Head of Academic Standards and Quality, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the institution maintains its reputation for excellence and compliance with external quality assurance frameworks.
Key Responsibilities- Leadership and Management: Lead and manage the Academic Standards and Quality team within the Education and Student Experience Directorate.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure appropriate and up-to-date quality assurance, regulatory, and legal frameworks in line with external requirements.
- Expert Advice and Guidance: Provide expert advice and guidance on quality assurance systems and processes to ensure they operate effectively and efficiently.
- Student Complaints and Conduct: Act as the professional service strategic lead for student complaints, conduct, and appeals matters, covering all aspects of student behaviour and concerns.
- External Representation: Represent Birkbeck in external quality assurance bodies and national groups.
- Leadership and Analytical Skills: Possess excellent leadership, analytical, communication, and personal skills.
- Student Focus: Have experience of working effectively with students and be passionate about ensuring they have an effective framework for representation and a voice in making a positive difference to education.
- Quality Assurance Experience: Experience in managing quality assurance and enhancement in higher education.
- Complex Workload Management: The ability to manage complex workloads and motivate a team, working with staff at all levels to ensure centrally agreed policy is implemented and adopted fairly and consistently across all faculties and schools.
