Strategic HR Lead for Academic Staff

The University of Oxford is seeking a highly skilled and experienced HR professional to fill the role of Head of Academic HR and Operations. This is a pivotal position that combines strategic and operational HR responsibilities, reporting to the Divisional Registrar with a dotted line to the Associate Head of Division (People).
As the successful candidate, you will lead a professional and coordinated service to the academic departments of the Social Sciences Division, the Social Sciences Board, and the central university in all aspects of the employment cycle of academic staff, academic title and reward schemes, and divisional office appointments. You will ensure that efficient and effective systems and processes are in place to meet the needs of key stakeholders while ensuring compliance with employment legislation and University policy and procedure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a professional and coordinated service to academic departments and the central university
- Develop and implement strategic HR plans to support the division's goals and objectives
- Manage and develop a team to provide a service in a complex setting
- Build excellent links with departmental colleagues to understand their issues and provide flexible and solutions-focused support
- Attend senior leadership team meetings and contribute to decision-making
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need to have:
- Education to degree level or equivalent
- Qualification to CIPD graduate level or above, or equivalent experience
- Ability to manage a senior policy portfolio at the divisional level of an organisation with autonomy and diplomacy
- Excellent organisational and planning skills
- Experience of managing and developing a team to provide a service in a complex setting
