The Commonwealth of Virginia invites applications for the full-time, tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in the field of Journalism and Mass Communication. This role is part of an accredited department that emphasizes excellence in teaching and research. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in a vibrant academic community.

Responsibilities

Deliver undergraduate and graduate courses covering topics such as media fundamentals, news reporting, cross-platform journalism, and other relevant subjects. Demonstrate outstanding teaching practices, provide effective academic advising, and pursue research opportunities. Actively contribute to scholarly activities and remain informed about advancements and trends in the field. Participate in departmental, college, and university meetings and events. Collaborate collegially with faculty and staff while adhering to established timelines.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in Journalism, Mass Communication, or a closely related field. Proven teaching experience in journalism or mass media. Research background in journalism-related topics.

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant professional media experience. Experience in online teaching methodologies. A strong record of professional integrity and commitment to diversity. Experience working with diverse student populations and a commitment to enhancing access to higher education.
