The Commonwealth of Virginia invites applications for the full-time, tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Communication and Journalism. This role is situated within an accredited Department of Communication and Journalism, with an anticipated start date in the upcoming academic year. The review of applications will commence upon receipt and continue until the position is filled.
The department offers undergraduate and graduate programs in communication, emphasizing practical skills and theoretical knowledge. It actively engages in various student-led media initiatives and supports a vibrant campus media environment.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver undergraduate and graduate courses in media studies, news reporting, cross-platform journalism, and related subjects. Foster an engaging learning environment through exemplary teaching and effective student mentorship. Participate in scholarly research and contribute to the academic community. Attend and contribute to departmental, college, and university meetings and events. Collaborate collegially with faculty and staff while adhering to established deadlines.Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in Communication, Journalism, or a closely related field. Proven teaching experience in journalism or communication courses. Demonstrated research experience in journalism-related topics.Preferred Qualifications
Relevant professional media experience. Experience in online teaching and distance learning methodologies. A strong commitment to professional integrity, collegiality, and diversity. Experience working with diverse student populations and a commitment to enhancing access to higher education for all.Additional Information
