The Commonwealth of Virginia invites applications for the full-time, tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Communication and Journalism. This role is part of a well-regarded department dedicated to fostering academic excellence in the field of media studies and journalism.

The department offers a Bachelor of Science degree in broadcasting and journalism, along with a Master of Arts in Media and Communication. It actively engages students through various media outlets and organizations, enhancing practical learning experiences.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver undergraduate and graduate courses in media fundamentals, news reporting, multi-platform journalism, and other related subjects. Demonstrate outstanding teaching practices, provide effective academic advising, and pursue research opportunities. Contribute to scholarly activities and remain informed about emerging trends and developments in the field. Participate in departmental, college, and university meetings and events as required. Collaborate collegially with faculty and staff while adhering to established timelines.

Required Qualifications

Doctorate in Communication, Journalism, or a closely related field. Experience teaching journalism or media courses. Proven research background in journalism-related topics.

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant professional experience in media. Demonstrated proficiency in online teaching methodologies. A history of professional integrity, collaboration, and dedication to diversity. Experience working with diverse student populations and a commitment to enhancing access to higher education for all.
