Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Assistant Professor of Mass Communication and Journalism to join our faculty team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in introduction to media, news writing, cross-platform journalism, and other journalism-related courses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach and mentor students in a dynamic and inclusive learning environment.
  • Develop and implement curriculum that aligns with the department's goals and objectives.
  • Engage in scholarly research and publication in the field of mass communication and journalism.
  • Contribute to departmental and university service, including committee work and professional development.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement innovative teaching and learning strategies.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Mass Communications or related field.
  • Teaching experience in journalism or mass media courses.
  • Research experience in journalism topics.
  • Professional media experience relevant to the position.
  • Demonstrated skill in distance learning via online modalities.
  • A record of professional integrity, collegiality, and commitment to diversity.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Commitment to improving access to higher education for all students.
  • Experience with curriculum development and implementation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
