Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Assistant Professor of Mass Communication and Journalism to join our faculty team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in mass communication and journalism, as well as engaging in research and scholarly activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach a range of courses in mass communication and journalism, including introduction to media, news writing, and cross-platform journalism.
  • Develop and implement curriculum to meet the needs of students in the Department of Mass Communications and Journalism.
  • Engage in research and scholarly activities, including publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at conferences.
  • Contribute to the development of the department's academic programs and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement departmental and university-wide initiatives.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Mass Communications or a related field.
  • Teaching experience in mass communication and journalism courses.
  • Research experience in mass communication and journalism topics.
  • Ability to develop and implement curriculum to meet the needs of students in the Department of Mass Communications and Journalism.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional experience in mass communication and journalism.
  • Experience teaching online courses.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to develop and implement curriculum to meet the needs of students in the Department of Mass Communications and Journalism.
