Job Title: Communications and Events Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled Communications and Events Officer to join our team at ODI. As a key member of our Humanitarian Policy Group, you will play a crucial role in supporting the delivery of policy and communications activities, including events, to increase the impact of our humanitarian and conflict research and policy engagement.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and develop effective communications outputs and activities for projects relating to humanitarian and conflict research, working closely with the wider HPG communications team.
  • Project-manage the delivery of key outputs and activities, such as events, media engagement, digital and multimedia content, to agreed deadlines and budget parameters.
  • Develop relationships with communications partners and drive collaborative approaches to identify and attract diverse and quality speakers and thought leaders, and a variety of audiences.
  • Develop event concepts and propositions that articulate clearly how we will convene with impact, including in-person and hybrid/global events.
  • Plan effective operations and logistics to ensure delivery of smooth-running events in line with ODI institutional standards.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and learn effectively from communications approaches, including how to gather feedback and adapt based on learning.
  • Coordinate with the wider ODI communications team and align with wider institutional priorities.
Requirements:
  • Demonstrable knowledge and interest in humanitarian and conflict issues.
  • Experience in convening and organizing events and a willingness to lead in this area.
  • Experience in basic principles of monitoring and evaluation processes to understand how effective our communications approaches are, and what we can do to improve them.
  • Excellent planning and administrative skills, with a proven ability to manage competing deadlines and priorities.
  • Self-starter with the ability to generate plans and ideas and carry them through to completion.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise and communicate with colleagues at all levels of seniority and from different cultures.
  • Ability to quickly pick up new software and tools, and willingness to learn new skills.
  • Excellent IT and data management skills, including Microsoft Office.
