Job Summary

The Central London Community Health Trust is seeking an experienced Tissue Viability Nurse Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will work independently and as part of a team to prevent avoidable pressure ulcers and manage complex wounds and leg ulcers in a community setting.

Main Responsibilities

  • To provide specialist advice on best practice in tissue viability to staff, patients, and carers in line with local and national guidance.
  • To ensure safe practice in line with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and trust policies and procedures.
  • To contribute to the prevention of pressure ulcers and provide specialist advice to staff, patients, and carers.
  • To establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, carers, and the wider multidisciplinary team to facilitate patient choice and independence.
  • To assess, plan, implement, and evaluate clinical care holistically.
  • To actively support innovations and improvements in wound care, including participation in the assessment and evaluation of wound care products and equipment.

Person Specification

  • Essential:
    • Master's level education in a relevant clinical specialty or equivalent combination of postgraduate diplomas, courses, and experience.
    • Registration as a nurse.
    • Extensive experience as a tissue viability nurse.
    • Post-registration course in wound management or leg ulcer management.
    • Independent non-medical prescriber or willingness to undertake.
    • Organisational skills.
    • Care planning and caseload management.
    • Written and verbal communication.
    • Ability to work as part of a team and as an autonomous practitioner.
    • Able to support junior staff and students.
    • Assessment skills.
    • Advanced wound technologies, including VAC therapy, intermittent pneumatic compression, and bio-surgical debridement.
    • Health promotion.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to teach clients and colleagues, both formally and informally.
    • Ability to work across boundaries to develop new ways of service delivery.
  • Desirable:
    • Teaching qualification.
    • Mentorship in practice or equivalent.
    • Relevant course in wound care, pressure ulcer care, or leg ulcer management.
