Tissue Viability Specialist Nurse

Job Summary
The Tissue Viability Support nurse will work independently within the Tissue Viability Team to contribute to the prevention of avoidable pressure ulcers and the management of complex wounds and leg ulcers in a clinic or community setting. The nurse will deliver training on all aspects of Tissue Viability to patients, carers, and staff groups, and act as a specialist practitioner and expert resource for patients with tissue viability issues.
Main Duties
- Provide specialist advice on best practice relating to Tissue Viability, ensuring safe practice within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and adhering to trust policies and procedures.
- Contribute to the prevention of all pressure ulcers and provide specialist advice to staff, patients, and carers.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, carers, and the wider multi-disciplinary team to facilitate patient choice and independence.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate clinical care holistically.
- Support innovations and improvements in practice related to wound care, including the assessment and evaluation of wound care products and equipment.

Person Specification
Essential
- Master's degree in a relevant clinical speciality or equivalent combination of postgraduate diplomas, courses, and experience.
- Registered Nurse.
- Extensive experience as a Tissue Viability nurse.
- Post-registration course in wound management or leg ulcer management.
- Independent non-medical prescriber or willingness to undertake.
- Organisational skills.
- Care Planning and caseload management.
- Written and verbal communication.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to work autonomously and use own initiative.
- Able to support junior staff and students.
- Assessment skills.
- Advanced wound technologies, including VAC therapy, intermittent pneumatic compression, and bio-surgical debridement.
- Health Promotion.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to teach clients and colleagues, both formally and informally.
- Ability to work across boundaries to develop new ways of service delivery.
- Presentation and report writing skills.
Desirable
- Teaching qualification.
- Mentorship in practice or equivalent.
- Relevant course in wound care, pressure ulcer care, or leg ulcer management.
