Job Overview

In this position, you will refine your expertise by applying economic theories and empirical methods across various industries. The integration of legal principles, economic analysis, innovative thought, and practical market understanding has proven vital in numerous cases.

Candidates should possess strong academic qualifications and a keen interest in applying economic analysis to diverse projects across multiple sectors. Proficiency in numerical analysis and exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential for delivering clear and concise advice that is easily understood by non-economists. Additionally, the ability to cultivate client relationships and contribute to the objectives of the competition department is important.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting quantitative economic analyses for critical competition cases, including mergers, market inquiries, antitrust matters, and litigation
  • Drafting and preparing submissions for competition authorities and sector regulators
  • Developing regulatory risk assessments for clients regarding potential mergers and dominance inquiries
  • Contributing to marketing and business development initiatives, as well as internal training on current issues in competition law and economics
  • Opportunities to publish articles on relevant topics in leading academic and professional journals and participate in pro bono projects

Essential Skills and Experience

This role is ideally suited for recent graduates or economists with less than two years of experience looking to embark on their careers. Candidates should have:

  • A Master's degree in economics, with experience in industrial and competition economics being advantageous
  • An excellent academic record, with a minimum 2:1 degree in economics
  • Proficiency in data analysis, particularly with Microsoft Excel and STATA
  • The ability to articulate complex economic concepts and arguments clearly and concisely
  • Experience in competition and/or regulatory economics from consultancy, industry, government, or regulatory agencies is a plus
  • Additional language skills are a bonus
