Job Overview

In this position, you will refine your skills by applying economic theories and empirical methodologies across various sectors. The integration of law, economics, innovative thought, and practical market knowledge has proven vital in numerous cases.

Candidates should possess strong academic credentials and a keen interest in applying economic analysis to diverse projects across multiple sectors. Strong numerical aptitude and exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential for delivering clear and concise advice accessible to non-economists. Additionally, the ability to cultivate client relationships and contribute to the competition department's objectives is crucial.

This role offers opportunities to apply economics to real-world cases, gaining firsthand experience by collaborating with an outstanding team of competition lawyers and economists. Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting quantitative economic analysis on significant competition cases, including mergers, market investigations, and antitrust litigation
  • Drafting submissions to UK, EU, and global competition authorities and sector regulators
  • Preparing regulatory risk assessments for clients concerning potential mergers and dominance inquiries
  • Contributing to marketing and business development initiatives, as well as the internal training program on current issues in competition law and economics
  • Opportunities to publish articles on relevant topics in leading academic and professional journals and engage in pro bono projects

Essential Skills and Experience

This role is ideally suited for recent graduates or economists with less than two years of experience seeking their first professional opportunity. You will have:

  • A Master's degree in economics, with experience in industrial and competition economics being advantageous
  • An excellent academic record, with a degree in economics (minimum 2:1)
  • Proficiency in data analysis, particularly with Microsoft Excel and STATA
  • The capability to articulate and present complex economic concepts clearly and concisely
  • Experience in competition and/or regulatory economics, whether in consultancy, industry, government, or regulatory agencies, is a plus
  • Language skills are considered a bonus
