We handle a variety of issues, including mergers and acquisitions, market inquiries, cartel investigations, regulatory compliance, and damage assessments in litigation scenarios.   • A major retailer on its acquisition of a convenience store chain
  • A financial data provider regarding a market study initiated by a regulatory body

Job Overview

In this position, you will refine your expertise by applying economic theories and empirical methods across multiple industries. The integration of legal principles, economic insights, innovative thinking, and practical market knowledge has proven crucial in many of our cases.

Ideal candidates will possess strong academic backgrounds and a keen interest in utilizing economic analysis for diverse projects. Proficiency in numerical analysis and exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential for conveying clear and concise advice to non-economists. Additionally, the ability to foster client relationships and contribute to the objectives of the competition department is vital.

This role offers opportunities to apply economic principles to real-world scenarios, gaining invaluable experience while collaborating with a distinguished team of competition lawyers and economists. You will also have the chance to interact with senior business leaders and regulatory authorities. Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting quantitative economic analyses for significant competition cases, including mergers, market inquiries, and antitrust litigation
  • Drafting submissions for UK, EU, and other global competition authorities and regulatory bodies
  • Preparing regulatory risk assessments for clients regarding potential mergers and dominance inquiries
  • Contributing to marketing and business development initiatives, as well as internal training on current issues in competition law and economics
  • Opportunities to publish articles on relevant competition law and economics topics in prestigious academic and professional journals, and to participate in pro bono projects

Essential Skills and Experience

This role is ideally suited for recent graduates or economists with less than two years of experience seeking their first career opportunity. Candidates should have:

  • A Master's degree in economics, with a focus on industrial and competition economics being advantageous
  • An excellent academic record, with a minimum 2:1 degree in economics
  • Experience in data analysis, particularly with Microsoft Excel and STATA
  • The ability to articulate complex economic concepts and arguments clearly and concisely
  • Experience in competition or regulatory economics, whether in consultancy, industry, government, or regulatory agencies, is a plus
  • Additional language skills are a bonus
