We advise on various issues, including mergers and acquisitions, market investigations, cartel behavior, regulatory compliance, and damage assessments in litigation scenarios. Our team has been involved in numerous landmark cases across various sectors, each presenting distinct economic challenges.

Recent engagements include advising:

  • A major retailer regarding its acquisition of a convenience store chain
  • A financial data provider in relation to a market study conducted by a regulatory authority
  • A telecommunications company concerning a damages claim related to pricing practices
  • An oil company on its substantial acquisition of a shipping firm
  • A leading technology manufacturer on pricing strategies across Europe

With offices across Europe, Asia, Australia, and the USA, our collaborative approach fosters knowledge-sharing beyond individual locations, allowing our London-based economists to engage in projects led by other offices.

Role Summary

In this position, you will refine your skills by applying economic theories and empirical methodologies across various sectors. The intersection of law, economics, innovative thinking, and practical market knowledge has proven crucial in numerous cases.

Candidates should possess strong academic credentials and a keen interest in applying economic analysis to diverse projects across multiple industries. Strong numerical aptitude and exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential for providing clear and accessible advice to non-economists. You should also demonstrate the ability to cultivate client relationships and contribute to the objectives of the competition department.

This role offers opportunities to apply economics to real-world scenarios, gaining firsthand experience while collaborating with an outstanding team of competition lawyers and economists. You will have the chance to interact with senior business leaders as well as competition authorities and regulators. We are committed to supporting your development through teamwork, client exposure, and necessary training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting quantitative economic analyses across significant competition cases, including mergers, market inquiries, antitrust issues, and litigation
  • Drafting written submissions for competition authorities and sector regulators
  • Preparing regulatory risk assessments for clients regarding potential mergers and competition concerns
  • Contributing to marketing and business development initiatives, as well as the internal training program on relevant competition law and economics topics
  • Opportunities to publish articles on current issues in competition law and economics in reputable academic and professional journals, and to participate in pro bono projects

Essential Qualifications and Experience

This position is ideally suited for recent graduates or economists with up to two years of experience seeking their first career move. You will have:

  • A Master's degree in economics, with a focus on industrial and competition economics being advantageous
  • An excellent academic record, with a minimum 2:1 degree in economics
  • Experience in data analysis, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and STATA
  • The ability to articulate and present complex economic concepts clearly and concisely
  • Experience in competition and/or regulatory economics, gained in consultancy, industry, government, or regulatory agencies, is a plus
  • Language skills are considered an asset
