  • A major retailer regarding its acquisition of a convenience store chain

  • An oil company on its significant acquisition of a logistics firm
  • A leading technology manufacturer regarding pricing strategies across Europe

Role Summary

In this position, you will refine your expertise by applying economic theories and analytical techniques across various industries. The fusion of legal principles, economic insights, innovative problem-solving, and practical market understanding has proven crucial in numerous cases.

Candidates should possess strong academic qualifications and a keen interest in leveraging economic analysis for diverse projects across multiple sectors. Proficiency in numerical analysis and exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential for delivering clear and accessible advice to clients. Additionally, the ability to cultivate client relationships and contribute to the objectives of the competition department is vital.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting quantitative economic analyses for significant competition cases, including mergers, market inquiries, and antitrust litigation
  • Drafting comprehensive submissions to UK, EU, and other global competition authorities and regulatory bodies
  • Preparing regulatory risk assessments for clients, particularly concerning potential mergers and dominance issues
  • Contributing to marketing and business development initiatives, as well as internal training on current topics in competition law and economics
  • Opportunities to publish articles on relevant competition law and economics issues in prestigious academic and professional journals, along with involvement in pro bono projects

Essential Qualifications and Experience

This position is ideally suited for recent graduates or economists with less than two years of experience seeking their initial career opportunity. You should have:

  • A Master's degree in economics, with a focus on industrial and competition economics being advantageous
  • A strong academic background, with a minimum 2:1 degree in economics
  • Experience in data analysis, particularly with Microsoft Excel and STATA
  • The capability to articulate and present complex economic concepts clearly and concisely
  • Experience in competition or regulatory economics, whether in consultancy, industry, government, or regulatory agencies, is a plus
  • Additional language skills would be beneficial
