Job Opportunity: Engineering Manager

We're seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to join our team on a 9-month fixed-term contract. The successful candidate will lead a team of engineers, leveraging their technical expertise to drive the development of high-quality software solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify opportunities to standardize approaches across adjacent teams, ensuring high-quality software reaches our customers efficiently.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to develop elegant, simple software from complex requirements, enabling quick iteration and delivery of high-quality features.
  • Ensure solutions are fit for purpose, provide business value, adhere to quality standards, and align with standard engineering practices.
  • Develop and implement a strategy for managing technical debt, ensuring our systems are secure, resilient, and reliable.
  • Promote a culture of mutual respect, collaboration, and engagement within the team, coaching and mentoring less experienced engineers to develop their skills.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to support smooth delivery of development activities within the sprint timebox.
  • Partner with the Developer Community to define software development standards that meet security, compliance, and audit requirements without slowing down software development processes.
  • Provide line management and professional guidance to a team of engineers, helping them navigate the business and adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Coach the team to develop their own long-term goals and objectives around software engineering quality, safety, and security.

Requirements:

  • Technology-focused degree-level qualifications are desirable.
  • Experience is of principal importance to this role.
  • Advanced understanding of software testing is essential.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD and associated release strategies is essential.
  • Knowledge of Agile software development methodologies, such as Scrum and Kanban, is essential.
  • Knowledge of web security is preferable.
  • Experience working as a technical contributor within a development team is essential.
  • Experience of participating and providing actionable feedback in effective code reviews is essential.
  • Experience of contributing to maintainable software features is essential.
  • Experience of analyzing, debugging, and solving difficult problems is essential.
  • Experience of guiding, coaching, and mentoring colleagues is essential.
  • Experience of breaking down complex requirements into achievable solutions is essential.
  • Experience of managing technical individuals or whole teams is essential.
