Overview

In this exciting role, you will have the opportunity to lead and develop specialist clinical pharmacy services in Rheumatology at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of the pharmacy team, you will work closely with senior healthcare professionals to establish outpatient clinics and streamline processes for initiating and maintaining patients on biologics.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will provide pharmacist-led clinics, lead a Virtual Biologics Clinic for patients initiating new therapies, and ensure that Medicines Optimisation opportunities are realised. You will also play an active role in developing and monitoring treatment pathways with colleagues across South East London.

You will be responsible for:

  • Acting as a specialist role model and expert in the medical management within Rheumatology
  • Leading and managing clinical pharmacy services in Rheumatology in conjunction with the Principal Pharmacist
  • Participating regularly in outpatient clinics to deliver and promote high quality, cost-effective, patient-focused pharmaceutical care
  • Actively participating in multidisciplinary ward rounds, delivering and promoting high quality, cost-effective, patient-focused pharmaceutical care
  • Promoting safe drug use within the Rheumatology specialty
  • Developing, implementing and auditing local guidelines
  • Regular financial reporting, drug usage and expenditure forecasting, and drug budget management
  • Participating in practice and clinical research and audit
Person Specification

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • MPharm (Masters Degree)
  • Registered Pharmacist (1 year competency assessed and examined professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council)
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent qualification/experience
  • Registered Independent Prescriber or willingness to complete
  • Member of the RPS faculty

You will also require:

  • Maintaining a broad level of pharmacy practice
  • Appropriate post-registration experience in hospital Pharmacy or equivalent area of practice with assessed competencies
  • Experience of working with senior healthcare professionals outside of Pharmacy
  • Experience of protocol/guideline development
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary team working
  • Experience of delivering training and education at postgraduate level
  • Experience of practice research or audit
  • Able to provide highly complex information on medicines use, clinical pharmacy and financial issues to all levels of healthcare professionals (up to and including senior consultants/professor level)
  • Able to implement and manage change
  • Flexible in responding to demands of the service
  • Methodical in approach
  • Demonstration of advanced practice using evidence mapped to the RPS Advanced Practice Framework

We offer a competitive salary of £61,927 - £68,676 per annum incl HCA, making us one of the highest-paying employers in the UK.
