Purchase Ledger Clerk Job Description

We are currently recruiting a Purchase Ledger Clerk on behalf of our client in the Halifax area.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all invoices are checked with reference to MSL guidelines, PO system and entered onto financial accounting software promptly and accurately.
  • Verify invoices received from suppliers are correctly calculated (including VAT & CIS) and sufficiently detailed.
  • Perform V Lookup for statement reconciliations.
  • Process invoices for direct bank payments (i.e. direct debits, CHAPS payments and similar payments).
  • Set up supplier accounts on Sage & bespoke job system.
  • Organise payments & remittances to suppliers on a timely basis.
  • Follow up disputed invoices with suppliers and ensure disputes are resolved.
  • Reconcile supplier statements monthly.
  • Act as the first point of contact for purchase ledger queries.
  • Meet key performance indicator targets for purchase ledger reconciliations.
  • Identify ways to improve the efficiency of the purchase ledger function.
  • Manage filing systems efficiently, ensuring invoices and payments are easily accessible.
  • Utilise MS Excel to generate aged creditor listings and supplier statements reconciliations.
  • Verify sub-contractor invoices and enter them onto job costing system.
  • Follow up disputed invoices with sub-contractors and ensure disputes are resolved.
  • Perform other general office duties.
