Senior Biomedical Scientist Haematology

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Biomedical Scientist to join our Haematology team at Health Services Laboratories. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing staff and sections within the department, ensuring the maintenance of scientific standards and providing an efficient and effective service.
Main Responsibilities- Staff Management
The Senior Biomedical Scientist will supervise various grades of scientific and support staff, providing guidance and support to ensure the smooth operation of the department.
Laboratory OperationsThe successful candidate will participate in all areas of laboratory bench work, adhering to standard operating procedures and contributing to their regular review and update.
Technical ExpertiseThe Senior Biomedical Scientist will be responsible for techniques and testing that include:
- Full Blood Counts
- Malaria antigen and morphology testing
- Routine coagulation testing
- Blood film morphology
- Glandular Fever testing
- Haemoglobinopathy testing
- HbA1c testing
The Senior Biomedical Scientist will communicate patient results and answer enquiries from healthcare professionals, providing information regarding appropriate investigations required and explanation of results, within departmental guidelines and professional code of conduct.
Quality Control and AssuranceThe successful candidate will evaluate and monitor the accuracy and precision of laboratory investigations using appropriate quality control procedures, ensuring that the department meets all the standards required by UKAS.
Training and EducationThe Senior Biomedical Scientist will train new laboratory and clinical staff, acquiring an up-to-date knowledge of developments in the discipline and pathology in general, and identifying the training needs within the team.
