Job Title: Biomedical Scientist - Haematology Department

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Biomedical Scientist to join our Haematology Department at Great Ormond Street Hospital. As a Biomedical Scientist, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality laboratory services to support the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Participate in out-of-hours shifts after completion of training to ensure a 24/7 laboratory service.
  • Undertake laboratory techniques to a high standard of technical excellence in line with department standard operating procedures.
  • Work efficiently to ensure that all results are reported within the departmental TATs and report to a senior staff member any deviations.
  • Be familiar with assays/procedures conducted in the department in terms of indications, principle, procedure, interpretation, and limitations and trouble shooting.
  • Authorise and report results of investigations, to interpret results to assist diagnosis.
  • Add clinically relevant comments, in line with laboratory policy and to advise clinical staff of appropriateness of investigations relating to patient's condition and to request further tests where necessary.
  • Understand and work within the framework of the department Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Perform the internal quality control, and to investigate any deviations.
  • Keep check of stocks, reagents and consumables and to order supplies as appropriate.

Requirements:

  • BSc in Biomedical Science.
  • Registration with HCPC: training/assessment completed in a Haematology/Blood Transfusion Laboratory.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • Experience in a routine Haematology / Blood Transfusion Laboratory.
  • Knowledge of the QMS.
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards.
  • Understanding Health and safety procedures and practises.
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology.
