Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Biomedical Scientist to lead our Red Cell / Haematology team at Barts Health NHS Trust. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Haematology Laboratory, predominantly leading the Red Cell section.

Main Responsibilities
  • Manage the Red Cell section of the Haematology Laboratory, ensuring high-quality patient care and efficient laboratory operations.
  • Lead a team of Biomedical Scientists, providing guidance, support, and development opportunities to ensure the success of the team.
  • Collaborate with Operational Leads to transform the delivery of services, driving quality improvement and innovation.
  • Develop and implement quality management systems, ensuring compliance with UKAS and Governance Requirements.
  • Provide expert scientific knowledge and advice to support the development of laboratory services.
  • Contribute to the development of policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure the effective management of the laboratory.
Requirements
  • MSc in Biomedical Sciences or relevant discipline, or IBMS Special Examination (Fellowship).
  • Holder of the IBMS Specialist Diploma or CPSM log book.
  • Registration with the Health Care Professions Council.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.
  • At least 5 years post HCPC registration in diagnostic Haematology & Blood Transfusion.
  • Experience of effectively managing staff and teaching staff.
  • Advanced scientific knowledge for relevant discipline, including detailed understanding of UKAS, Quality Management Systems, and Health & Safety Legislation.
