Job Overview

The position is designed to prepare the individual to perform psychological evaluations, create structured assessments, and implement evidence-based psychological interventions under the guidance of a qualified psychological professional. This role encompasses both individual and group interventions tailored to specific needs, utilizing techniques such as compassion-focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness practices.

Key Responsibilities

1. Conduct psychological evaluations, structured assessments, and assist in the implementation of psychological interventions under supervision.

2. Collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to deliver high-quality services to adults and their support systems dealing with chronic pain conditions, adhering to clinical governance and professional standards.

3. Co-facilitate group interventions as required by the service.

4. Gain broader experience in professional psychology within the NHS beyond the primary service area of employment.

5. Participate in clinical supervision with a designated qualified psychology staff member on a weekly basis to support safe practice and professional development.

6. Assist in the creation, design, and execution of programs and projects, along with related tasks.

Main Duties

Ensure that the care provided aligns with the evidence base, NICE guidelines, and both local and national standards, while operating within legal, professional, and ethical frameworks to deliver psychologically informed healthcare.

Recognize the effects of diversity and social inequalities on individuals' lives. Engage actively with the evidence base and apply relevant theories and training into practice. Utilize supervision to reflect on this application and foster the development of psychological skills necessary for the role.

Maintain the highest professional standards by preparing for and engaging in weekly supervision, aimed at effective learning and safe practice. Participate in the appraisal process to assess competency development.

Provide low-level interventions in both individual and group settings under the supervision of a qualified psychological professional. Complete audits, evaluations, and project work as needed.

About the Organization

The successful candidate will be part of the East Lancashire Pain Management Service (PMS) and Musculo-Skeletal (MSK) services, primarily based at a teaching hospital. The PMS provides assessment and treatment for adults experiencing chronic pain conditions in the East Lancashire area, while the MSK service offers diagnostic assessments for musculoskeletal conditions. Both services adopt a multi-disciplinary approach, incorporating medical, nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and clinical psychology interventions.

  • Degree in Psychology, minimum of 2nd class.
