Position Overview
We are pleased to present an exceptional opportunity to become a vital member of our dedicated team at Stockwood Medical Centre. We are seeking a Senior Nursing Leader to take over from our previous esteemed nurse who is transitioning to a managerial position within our organization.
In collaboration with the practice management team and GP partners, the Senior Nursing Leader will have the opportunity to influence the future of our nursing services, ensuring the provision of high-quality, patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities
As the leader of the general practice nursing team, the incumbent will be responsible for overseeing Treatment Room Services, guaranteeing the provision of safe and effective nursing care to our entire patient population.
The role involves managing all Treatment Room resources, working in close partnership with GPs and the Senior Management Team to achieve practice objectives.
Clinically, the focus will be on delivering evidence-based care for patients with both acute and chronic conditions, as well as implementing management and preventative nursing interventions for all patients.
The Senior Nursing Leader will collaborate with the entire general practice team to address patient needs, support the execution of procedures, and provide leadership and guidance to the nursing staff.
About Our Practice
Stockwood Medical Centre is a growing practice serving a diverse patient population. Located conveniently, we cater to approximately 10,600 patients and are active participants in the Connexus Primary Care Network (PCN).
Our team consists of 3 GP Partners, 5 salaried GPs, 2 Advanced Nurse Practitioners, 1 Specialist Paramedic, 6 practice nurses, 3 Healthcare Assistants, and 2 phlebotomists, all supported by our experienced administrative and reception staff. We are also a recognized GP training practice, engaged in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. Our services include minor surgery and joint injection clinics, and we are committed to innovating staff development and service delivery to meet patient needs.
Job Duties
The Senior Nursing Leader will:
- Provide clinical leadership within the nursing team.
- Oversee the line management of the treatment room team.
- Assist in the development of nursing services offered by the practice.
- Support nursing team members in fulfilling mandatory and statutory training requirements.
- Offer clinical and educational guidance to enhance team development and service range.
- Manage appraisals and monitor annual leave, sickness, and other absences, including conducting return-to-work interviews and informal counseling, while adhering to Practice Policy and maintaining appropriate records.
- Facilitate nursing team meetings.
- Manage the care of patients with long-term health conditions, potentially overseeing specific disease areas.
- Review and follow nursing protocols, particularly for childhood immunizations, to improve uptake rates.
- Ensure effective wound management, promoting ongoing learning and development for the nursing team to achieve high healing rates and positive patient outcomes.
- Coordinate recall systems for chronic disease management, immunizations, and disease prevention care programs.
- Lead infection control initiatives and audits.
- Ensure compliance and effectiveness of treatment room operations, including stock control and vaccine/cold chain management.
- Guarantee the highest standards of care for patients.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Recent, relevant experience in Primary Care.
- Understanding of infection prevention and control measures in clinical practice.
- Experience in leading a nursing team within a primary care setting.
- Experience in chronic disease management.
- Ability to work autonomously.
- Broad knowledge of clinical governance.
- Familiarity with health promotion strategies.
- Understanding of PGDs and associated policy.
- Ability to adhere to clinical policies and procedures.
- Engagement in audit programs.
- Contribution to clinical risk management.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Effective resource utilization.
- Disclosure Barring Service check.
- Maintenance of evidence for continuing professional development in line with the role and for ongoing Nurse revalidation.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Registered General Nurse (Registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council).
Desirable:
- Adult and Child Immunisation.
- Accredited Qualification in Diabetes Care.
- Accredited Qualification in Asthma / COPD / Spirometry / FENO.
- Cervical Cytology (registered and updated within the last 3 years).
- Mentor or teaching qualification.
