Position Overview

The Hazel Unit is a specialized 12-bed Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit dedicated to providing care for male service users from the Bristol, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire regions.

This unit focuses on the clinical, short-term management of individuals experiencing acute phases of serious psychiatric conditions, ensuring safety and stability beyond what general acute settings can offer. We collaborate closely with a gender-specific acute unit on-site and are committed to enhancing our services tailored specifically for male service users.

Our team is currently undergoing significant transformations, including the introduction of a newly constructed high-care de-escalation suite and a fresh management team now in place.

We are seeking enthusiastic, highly driven, and experienced registered nurses to lead our team in further developing our services in accordance with National Minimum Standards for Psychiatric Intensive Care Services.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will take on a clinical leadership role, managing a team of staff nurses and healthcare assistants. Responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting the Ward Manager with operational duties and ensuring the maintenance of clinical standards.
  • Providing mentorship and support to junior staff, fostering their professional growth.
  • Conducting comprehensive nursing assessments and developing individualized care plans in collaboration with service users.
  • Implementing evidence-based practices and encouraging a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Supervising and guiding junior and unqualified staff to ensure high-quality care delivery.

The ideal candidate will be a registered nurse with a specialization in Mental Health or Learning Disabilities, possessing substantial experience in Psychiatric Intensive Care, Acute Inpatient Nursing, and Crisis Home Treatment. A demonstrated capacity for clinical excellence, emotional resilience, and a commitment to service enhancement is essential.
