Overview of the Role

The primary objective of this position is to assist the senior nursing staff in delivering exceptional care standards to patients within the department. This role encompasses the management, oversight, and coordination of nursing activities, ensuring that quality benchmarks are consistently met and corrective measures are implemented when necessary.

This position requires a prominent, approachable, and authoritative presence within the department, serving as a reliable resource for staff, patients, and their families seeking guidance, support, and assistance.

Key Responsibilities

- Oversee the daily operations of the department in collaboration with the senior outpatient team and Matron.

- Act as a trainer, assessor, mentor, and supervisor for nursing personnel to ensure the safe and effective administration of systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT).

- Support the preparation and execution of clinics.

- Investigate and assist in addressing formal complaints and incidents.

- Monitor staff attendance, manage sickness records, and facilitate staff returns to work post-absence.

- Coordinate and oversee duty rosters, ensuring an adequate skill mix to support clinical activities effectively.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
  • Completion of the national PEAP program for practice supervisors or an equivalent teaching and assessing qualification
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development

Desirable Qualifications

  • Evidence of post-registration academic achievement at degree level or equivalent

Essential Experience

  • Extensive experience at Band 5
  • Knowledge and interest in oncology patient care

Desirable Experience

  • Core competencies in systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT)
