Position Overview

This role is designed for an immediate appointment within the Neurology department, focusing on providing essential support in a clinical setting. Candidates must possess MRCP Part 1, Part 2, and PACES qualifications. It is important to note that this position does not confer a National Training Number, and full registration with the GMC, including a licence to practise, is mandatory.

Key Responsibilities

Role Duties

The Clinical Fellow position is situated within a prominent hospital, aimed at bridging a gap in the Neurology Specialist Training Programme. Although it is not classified as a training post, the work schedule will align closely with that of a Neurology Trainee. The successful candidate will acquire comprehensive experience across various clinical neurology sub-specialties, including:

  • Stroke Medicine
  • Clinical Neurophysiology
  • Rehabilitation Medicine
  • Neurosurgery
  • Intensive Care
  • Neuroradiology
  • Head Injury Management
  • Clinical Audit

This role offers a unique opportunity to engage with a diverse range of neurological conditions and treatments.

About the Department

The Neurology Department operates within a larger clinical framework, providing services to a significant population across multiple regions. The department is equipped with 51 dedicated neurological beds and has access to advanced facilities, including ITU, clinical neurophysiology, neuropathology, and neuroradiology.

Additionally, the department collaborates closely with an academic unit, enhancing research and educational opportunities. The department is committed to teaching and training, contributing to the development of both undergraduate and postgraduate medical students.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Full MRCP Part 1, Part 2, and PACES
  • Full registration with the GMC and a licence to practise
  • ALS or equivalent certification

Experience Requirements

Essential

  • Minimum of two years post-registration experience in medical specialties, including at least 12 months of inpatient care by the start date

Desirable

  • Experience in audit and understanding of NHS and clinical governance
  • Background in neurology and/or stroke medicine
  • Outpatient experience
  • Experience managing patients with neurological diseases at CT/ST/IM1/2 level
  • Previous NHS experience

Academic and Research Skills

  • Ability to critically evaluate published research and apply findings to clinical practice

  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals
