Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged to become a vital member of the Pediatric Neurology division at Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust as a Senior Pediatric Neurology Consultant. We are seeking applications from qualified individuals with the necessary training and expertise for this pivotal role. The dedicated team is eager to foster specialized interests within the field of neurology, providing the successful candidate with the chance to advance in their specific area of focus. This will be collaboratively discussed with the team to ensure that the new skills enhance and support the existing services.

This is a full-time position primarily located at Sheffield Children's Hospital and the Ryegate Children's Centre.

Candidates should hold a CCST/CCT in Pediatrics (Pediatric Neurology) upon starting the role or be within six months of obtaining it at the time of the interview, or possess equivalent training. Relevant experience in a dedicated Pediatric Neurology Unit is essential, as this role is designed to enhance and develop Pediatric Neurology services. We expect the successful candidate to demonstrate both experience and enthusiasm in this medical specialty.

Should the appointed individual choose to work part-time, they will be required to prioritize this role and dedicate substantial time to its responsibilities.

We aim to recruit two professionals for this position.

Key Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES:

1. General Responsibilities - to provide comprehensive pediatric neurology and epilepsy services, including on-call duties.

2. Collaboration - to engage with the Trust's Management team to optimize the use of clinical and other resources.

3. Education - to participate in the training programs for both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

4. Research and Evaluation - to engage in local, regional, and national audit activities.

5. Professional Development - the Trust is dedicated to supporting the ongoing professional and personal growth of its consultant staff.

6. Coverage - to share in providing on-call consultant coverage and to offer support for colleagues during their absences.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • MBBS or equivalent qualification
  • MRCPCH or equivalent
  • APLS training / Level 3 safeguarding training

Desirable Qualifications

  • Relevant higher degree

Training Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Completion of a recognized higher specialized training program or equivalent in pediatrics with higher specialist training in neurology; must possess CCST/CCT in Pediatrics (Pediatric Neurology) or be within six months of obtaining it.

Clinical Experience Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Extensive experience in Pediatric Neurology, with a minimum of three years in a tertiary center, including experience in epilepsy and pre-surgical evaluation.
  • Strong clinical experience in pediatrics.

Audit and Research Experience

Essential Requirements

  • Proficiency in clinical audit.

Desirable Experience

  • Ability to initiate and conduct medical research projects.

Teaching Experience

Essential Requirements

  • Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.

Desirable Experience

  • Specific training in education and/or appraisal.

Management Experience

Essential Requirements

  • Knowledge of clinical governance.

Desirable Experience
