Position Overview

Southend On Sea City Council is launching a new SEND Therapies Service aimed at providing comprehensive support for educational institutions across the region.

This initiative is designed to offer both universal and specialized assistance to children and young individuals (CYP) experiencing various speech, language, and communication challenges (SLCN). The service will also aid local schools in fostering exceptional educational experiences and inclusive environments.

We are in search of a seasoned and highly skilled speech and language therapist to become a vital member of our team. This position entails leading and overseeing a group of speech and language therapy assistants, assessing the effectiveness of the service by alleviating demands on statutory and specialized services, and facilitating early identification and support for CYP with SLCN.

This innovative service presents an exciting opportunity for a therapist to contribute to a transformative project aimed at enhancing outcomes for CYP in the community.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide exceptional support and guidance to mainstream schools and educational settings in Southend to enhance their universal and targeted offerings for children and young people with speech, language, and communication needs.

- Supervise a dedicated team of speech and language therapy assistants delivering focused services to educational institutions.

- Monitor and enhance universal and targeted support for schools, including data collection and reporting.

- Engage in the development of services and policies.
