Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist

About the Role

This is a fixed-term opportunity for a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join our team at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust. The post will rotate with other Band 6 posts across the acute wards, including respiratory, oncology, and CCU/HDU, and the stroke wards.

Main Responsibilities
  • Undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner, working independently and using initiative.
  • Take a specialist interest in at least one defined area of the service or particular patient type, working without direct supervision.
  • Participate in clinical audit, protocol development, objective-setting, and other activities as required by the development of the SALT team.
  • Deputise for the Clinical Lead/Band 7 as and when required.
  • Attend clinical supervision, including regular face-to-face meetings with your supervisor, clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, and team case discussions.
  • Provide supervision and education of Band 5 SALTs and speech and language therapy students/assistants.
  • Undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further own and team's clinical practice.

Person Specification
  • Essential:
    • S&L degree
    • HCPC
    • Dysphagia course or competencies
    • RCSLT NQP comp framework or equivalent
    • Minimum 12 months at Band 5
    • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Desirable:
    • Registered with RCSLT
    • Experience working with stroke and neuro patients
Skills and Knowledge
  • Essential:
    • Knowledge of evidence-based practice in SLT
    • Ability to clinical reason for case management
    • Ability to create clear care plans
    • Ability to communicate complex condition-related information
