Position Overview

Southend On Sea City Council is in the process of launching a new SEND Therapies Service aimed at supporting educational institutions throughout the region.

This initiative will provide both universal and specialized assistance to children and young individuals facing various speech, language, and communication challenges (SLCN), while also aiding local schools in creating exceptional educational experiences and inclusive environments.

We are in search of a qualified and highly skilled speech and language therapist to become a vital member of our team. This position entails leading and overseeing a group of speech and language therapy assistants, assessing the effectiveness of the service by alleviating demands on statutory and specialized services, and ensuring early identification and support for children and young people with SLCN.

This innovative service presents an exciting opportunity for a therapist to contribute to a transformative project that aims to enhance outcomes for children and young people in the region.

While some hybrid working is permitted, the role requires a significant presence in educational settings throughout the week. The working patterns and locations will primarily be determined by the needs of the educational institutions.

Key Responsibilities

- Deliver exceptional support and guidance to mainstream schools and educational settings in Southend to enhance their universal and targeted provisions for children and young people with speech, language, and communication needs.

- Supervise a team of speech and language therapy assistants in providing targeted services to schools.

- Monitor and enhance universal and targeted support for schools, including data collection and reporting.

- Contribute to the development of services and policies.
