Position Overview

This role, under the guidance of the Special Education department, is dedicated to delivering educational support to small groups of children facing learning challenges or providing individualized assistance to specific students. These challenges may encompass emotional and behavioral disorders, communication difficulties, and physical disabilities.

The core responsibility of a special education aide is to ensure adherence to a structured educational plan aimed at fulfilling special education goals. In this capacity, you will employ diverse strategies within the classroom to engage students at various levels.

Depending on assigned duties, you may interact with students who experience physical or cognitive limitations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the special education teacher to create classroom curricula tailored to the unique needs of each student.
  • Assist in delivering specialized instruction in alignment with established lesson plans.
  • Execute specialized tasks to meet both instructional and behavioral objectives.
  • Support the special education teacher in implementing behavior modification strategies.
  • Aid students with mobility requirements and ensure a secure classroom atmosphere.
  • Provide instructional support based on lesson plans and help individual students grasp concepts.
  • Supervise students during activities and downtime, intervening as necessary to maintain a positive environment.
  • Modify classroom activities and assignments to reinforce educational objectives.
  • Communicate effectively with students to assess their needs and ensure they are met appropriately.
  • Assist the lead teacher in adapting traditional teaching methods to accommodate the diverse needs of students.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Successful completion of a background check and drug screening prior to employment.
  • A minimum of one year of relevant experience in an educational or childcare environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An associate's degree in education or a related field is preferred.
  • Familiarity with working with individuals with mental, emotional, and physical disabilities is advantageous.
  • This position typically requires a commitment of six hours per day, which may limit flexibility for attending classes; however, candidates with exceptional qualifications and adaptable schedules may be considered.

  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities based on urgency and importance.

Salary Information

The hourly wage for this position is $14.25.

Work Environment

Employees primarily work indoors, shielded from weather and contaminants, though they may experience occasional temperature fluctuations. Regular tasks may involve sitting and repetitive hand motions, as well as reaching and lifting up to 10 pounds.
