Your Role:

As a Senior Engineer in our Scene Maker division, you will play a crucial role in crafting a detailed yet succinct representation of the environment surrounding autonomous vehicles. This team is integral to the Localisation & Mapping stream, tasked with creating a semantic comprehension of the vehicle's immediate surroundings to facilitate informed decision-making. The Scene Maker team integrates data from both static map sources and dynamic inputs from localisation, object detection, tracking, and semantic classification.

Key Responsibilities:

Development:

  • Design and implement software, systems, and tools for semantic understanding.
  • Engage in discussions regarding high-level design choices for our local scene construction framework.
  • Prototype and test algorithms aimed at enhancing our semantic understanding capabilities.
  • Collaborate across teams to introduce new features effectively.
  • Manage data from diverse sources, ensuring synchronization.
  • Develop and evaluate our local scene API utilized by various systems.
  • Conduct performance analysis and optimization to meet real-time requirements.

Leadership:

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members.
  • Collaborate with leadership across the organization to align on strategic goals and technical requirements.

Communication:

  • Encourage sharing of ideas within the team and across the organization.
  • Engage with other teams to gain insights into the autonomy system and broaden your understanding of the business.

Qualifications:

Essential Skills:

  • Proven experience in algorithm development for robotics, particularly in semantic understanding and mapping.
  • Strong background in software development for production environments, emphasizing testing, safety, and performance considerations.
  • Proficiency in C++11/14/17.
  • Familiarity with Python and associated libraries (Numpy, Scipy, Jupyter Notebooks, etc.).
  • A methodical, scientific approach to engineering complex systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to analyze and debug intricate system interactions within a large codebase.
  • Experience working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Advanced degree (PhD or Master's) in engineering or computer science.
  • Experience with map data analysis, particularly formats like OpenDRIVE.
