Your Team

You will be part of our Planning Team, responsible for designing, implementing, testing, and deploying the core Engine that governs the behavior of Oxa's Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) based on their environmental understanding.

Your Responsibilities

As a Senior Software Engineer specializing in Trajectory Planning, you will take charge of designing, implementing, testing, and deploying algorithms that define the desired behaviors of the AV in various scenarios. This role emphasizes planning the spatial and temporal trajectories that realize the intended actions of the AV while interacting with other entities and adhering to traffic regulations. You will collaborate closely with the Decision Making and Controls teams to ensure smooth, comfortable, and precise maneuver execution.

In this position, you will:

  • Work alongside your Team Lead and colleagues to tackle spatial-temporal motion planning challenges, including evaluating existing solvers and developing custom solutions.
  • Partner with the Decision Making team to translate complex maneuvers in diverse environments into generalized Trajectory Planning challenges.
  • Coordinate with the Controls team to guarantee smooth and precise execution of maneuvers for both on-road and off-road scenarios.
  • Contribute to the creation of high-quality functionalities and APIs that enable Planner capabilities as foundational elements for on-vehicle applications.
  • Establish metrics and tools to assess and benchmark the performance of Planners across various AV platforms.
  • Engage with customers, stakeholders, and peers to ensure optimal solutions are provided, fostering constructive dialogue to resolve any disagreements.
  • Play a significant role in the engineering lifecycle, encompassing scoping, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance of your team's deliverables.
  • Influence the technical direction within the Planning Team, ensuring alignment with your Team Lead and counterparts in other departments.
  • Document and train others on your team's initiatives, focusing on feature enhancement and understanding the business and customer value of your work.
  • Positively impact product quality, customer satisfaction, and maintainability, while undertaking projects that enhance team processes and solutions.
  • Contribute to the recruitment and onboarding process by defining role responsibilities, leading interviews, and mentoring new team members.

Qualifications

What You Will Need:

  • A PhD in a relevant field (Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, Computer Science, Robotics, Mechatronics) with 2+ years of professional experience is preferred.
  • A Master's degree in a related field with 4+ years of professional experience is acceptable.
  • Extensive practical experience in optimization-based trajectory planning.
  • Familiarity with sampling-based trajectory planning techniques.
  • Experience in formulating trajectory planning problems and transcribing them effectively.
  • Proficiency in modern C++ algorithm development and deployment, ideally in a production context (including STL and common testing frameworks).

Additional Skills:

  • Experience in technical and people leadership or management.
  • Knowledge of Dynamic Programming.
  • Familiarity with Model Predictive Control (MPC) algorithms.
  • Experience with iLQR algorithms.
  • Knowledge of RRT algorithms.
  • Understanding of vehicle dynamics and modeling.
  • Ability to adapt in fast-paced environments, as we continuously evolve.
  • A customer-focused mindset, anticipating and prioritizing customer needs.
