Watford, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Full time

Job Overview

We are seeking a passionate and proactive professional to enhance our new initiative within the Trust's Safeguarding Team, dedicated to supporting Victim/Survivors of Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence. We are looking for an Independent Sexual Violence Advocate (ISVA) and/or Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA) to collaborate with our established Hospital IDSVA Team, promoting the Domestic Abuse agenda throughout the organization.

The ISVA/IDVA will engage directly with Victim/Survivors within the hospital environment, offering both emotional and practical assistance while ensuring they can access necessary services following their experiences of abuse. Additionally, the ISVA/IDVA will provide training and education to clinical staff to enhance their understanding and management of victims of abuse who are receiving care within the Trust.

With a strong commitment to delivering needs-led and trauma-informed services, the ISVA/IDVA will offer transformative support to Victim/Survivors of Domestic and Sexual Abuse. We welcome applications from individuals with an accredited ISVA and/or IDVA qualification or equivalent experience.

Main Responsibilities

The ISVA/IDVA will be an integral part of the Trust's IDSVA Service, managing a caseload that includes assisting Victim/Survivors from marginalized groups and developing personalized safety and support plans. This role involves providing unbiased information to empower individuals in making informed decisions regarding their health, safety, and potential legal actions.

Collaboration with the Herts IDVA Service, operated by Refuge, is essential to ensure that high-risk cases are promptly identified and adequately supported.

About Our Organization

As we prepare for the opening of a new hospital and upgrade facilities at our existing sites, this is an exciting opportunity to join our team.

We are building on the success of our innovative virtual hospital and reimagining care models, working closely with partners and leveraging advancements in digital healthcare.

At our Trust, staff wellbeing and professional development are paramount, alongside our commitment to innovation in enhancing clinical care, outcomes, and patient experiences.

Our vision is to provide Excellent Patient Care Together, guided by our values of empowerment, compassion, professionalism, and inclusivity. These principles reflect our commitment to individual and collective responsibilities.

We offer a range of flexible working arrangements, recognizing the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

- Liaise with law enforcement, the Crown Prosecution Service, and other pertinent service providers on behalf of Victim/Survivors.

- Keep Victim/Survivors informed about the progress of their cases in accordance with applicable legislation.

- Support Victim/Survivors through the Criminal Justice System, clarifying processes, procedures, and their rights.

- Advocate for Special Measures and attend pre-trial visits and CPS meetings as necessary.

- Provide guidance to Victim/Survivors who may be hesitant to report to the Police, helping them understand their options and offering support for future actions.

- Identify and address issues related to Safeguarding, Child Protection, and the protection of Vulnerable Adults.

- Refer high-risk cases to the Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) as needed.
