Fresh Produce Quality and Stock Controller

Salary: £27,000 per annum plus exceptional benefits

Location: Onsite at The Newt in Somerset

Working Hours: 40 hours per week, Tuesday to Saturday

The Fresh Produce Quality and Stock Controller plays a crucial role within the Product Team, focusing on the quality assessment of incoming fruit and vegetables. This position involves the division of bulk wholesale deliveries and the preparation of orders for distribution. Additionally, responsibilities include managing stock levels through effective rotation and utilizing systems such as Sage for invoicing, inter-siting, and receipting, alongside some ordering tasks. While training will be provided, a basic proficiency in IT is essential.

Given the significance of fresh produce at The Newt, it is imperative that every item received or dispatched meets our stringent quality standards. We seek an individual who can operate independently and efficiently, possessing a meticulous attention to detail.

This role is dynamic and physically engaging, encompassing the maintenance of a clean and organized fridge area while minimizing waste. Collaborating closely with the Fresh Produce Buyer, you will advocate for the quality of our fruit and vegetables.

At The Newt, we have recently established a Hydroponic Glasshouse and a Mushroom House, complemented by expansive vegetable fields and a dedicated team focused on cultivating fresh produce. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our new Greengrocer Department, aimed at supplying our estate and clientele.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting quality inspections on all incoming orders, ensuring the highest standards for every piece of fresh produce utilized on the estate.
  • Picking and packing for retail and hospitality venues, including the division of large orders into appropriate packaging and assembling exceptional Veg Boxes.
  • Ensuring all vegetables are properly packaged in punnets and labeled with barcodes for retail.
  • Maintaining accurate stock records, including ordering, invoicing, inter-siting, and receipting in collaboration with the Fresh Produce Buyer.
  • Managing the large fruit and vegetable fridge while ensuring cleanliness and organization.
  • Striving for continuous improvement in packaging and delivery standards.
  • Working proactively to reduce food waste through effective stock management and rotation.

What We Offer:

  • A supportive work environment with opportunities for personal and professional growth.
  • Complimentary access to our gym and wellness classes to help you stay fit.
  • Wellbeing benefits including access to our Spa and swimming pool, along with a 50% discount on Spa treatments.
  • 30% discount for all colleagues on purchases made in our estate shops and free delivery for online orders.
  • Exclusive perks such as discounted hotel stays and a 30% discount at our restaurants.
  • The chance to voice your opinions and influence the business through our Employee Engine Room.
  • Complimentary garden membership for The Newt and partner gardens.
  • A complimentary meal during your shift, prepared using fresh produce from our estate.
  • Recognition of your hard work through our colleague recognition program, 'Newt Awards', with opportunities for various rewards.
  • Support from our Employee Assistance Programme for you and your family.
  • A fun team culture with regular engagement activities, including motivational speakers and team events.
  • Up to 30 days of annual leave for full-time staff.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Experience in handling fresh produce is highly desirable.
  • Operational warehouse experience is a plus.
  • Organizational skills, efficiency, and a keen eye for quality are essential.
  • A candidate who takes pride in their work and demonstrates ownership of their responsibilities.
  • No prior experience with Sage is required, but intermediate IT skills are beneficial.
  • Basic ordering experience is preferred.

About The Product Team:

The Product Team oversees all aspects of product management across the estate, including retail operations in our shops and online, as well as products for hospitality, events, and wholesale. This team encompasses buying, merchandising, new product development, packaging, and procurement, collaborating with various internal departments to enhance the product offerings aligned with The Newt's vision.
