Fresh Produce Quality and Stock Controller
As a vital member of the Product Team, the Fresh Produce Quality and Stock Controller plays a crucial role in ensuring the highest standards of quality for all incoming fruit and vegetables. This hands-on position involves meticulous quality assessments of deliveries, segmenting bulk wholesale shipments, and preparing orders for distribution. Additionally, responsibilities will include stock management through effective stock rotation and utilizing software platforms for invoicing, inter-siting, and receipting, alongside some ordering tasks. While training will be provided, proficiency in IT is essential.
Fresh produce is a cornerstone of our operations, and it is imperative that every item received or dispatched meets our stringent quality criteria. We seek an individual who can work independently and efficiently, demonstrating a sharp attention to detail.
This role is dynamic and physically engaging, requiring the maintenance of a clean and organized storage area while minimizing waste. Collaborating closely with the Fresh Produce Buyer, you will advocate for the quality of our fruit and vegetables.
Our estate features a state-of-the-art Hydroponic Glasshouse and a Mushroom House, complemented by extensive vegetable fields and a dedicated team focused on cultivating fresh produce. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the establishment of a new Greengrocer Department aimed at serving our estate and clientele.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting quality inspections of all incoming orders, upholding the highest quality standards for fresh produce utilized on the estate.
- Preparing and packaging products for retail and hospitality, including dividing large orders into appropriate retail and hospitality formats and assembling exceptional Veg Boxes.
- Ensuring all vegetables are properly packaged in punnets and labeled with barcodes for retail sale.
- Maintaining accurate stock records, including ordering, invoicing, inter-siting, and receipting, in collaboration with the Fresh Produce Buyer.
- Managing the large fruit and vegetable refrigeration area, ensuring cleanliness and organization.
- Striving for continuous improvement in packaging and delivery standards.
- Working diligently to reduce food waste through effective stock management and rotation practices.

What We Are Looking For
- Experience in handling fresh produce is highly desirable.
- Operational warehouse experience is advantageous.
- Strong organizational skills, efficiency, and a keen eye for quality.
- A proactive individual who takes pride in their work.
- Intermediate IT skills are beneficial; no prior experience with Sage is required.
- Basic ordering experience is a plus.
About The Product Team
The Product Team oversees all aspects of product management across the estate, including retail in our shops and online, hospitality offerings, events, and wholesale. The team encompasses buying and merchandising, new product development, packaging, and procurement.
Collaboration with various internal departments is essential to enhance the product offerings that align with the estate's key pillars: hotel, gardens, visitor attractions, as well as butchery, creamery, productive growing, and bakery, focusing on seasonality and sourcing high-quality products from local suppliers.
