The American Express Global Privacy Oversight team serves as trusted advisors on the organization’s Data Protection & Privacy Principles. Our mission is to enhance privacy awareness, ensure compliance with internal privacy policies and regulatory requirements across the organization, and position privacy as a strategic advantage for the American Express brand.

As a second line of defense function, Global Privacy oversees, provides expertise in, and challenges the identification, management, and mitigation of privacy risks throughout the organization, aligning with the privacy framework and the company’s vision to deliver the world's best customer experience consistently.

This role is situated in the United Kingdom and reports to the Director of Global Privacy Risk Oversight.

Core Responsibilities include:

The Senior Privacy Manager for Monitoring and Testing will be accountable for executing the monitoring and testing initiatives within the organization's privacy program. The Senior Manager will formulate and implement monitoring and testing strategies to evaluate compliance with privacy laws, regulations, and American Express Data Protection and Privacy Principles. This position necessitates strong technical expertise in auditing or testing, excellent analytical skills, and a deep curiosity regarding data protection and privacy.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy: Formulate and execute a comprehensive monitoring and testing strategy to evaluate compliance with privacy laws, regulations, organizational policies, and American Express Data Protection and Privacy Principles. Planning: Collaborate with privacy experts, business teams, legal advisors, and other stakeholders to establish monitoring and testing objectives and priorities. Develop testing plans and procedures to assess the effectiveness of privacy controls, processes, and practices. Testing and Validation: Conduct assessments of privacy controls, processes, and practices, and recommend suitable corrective actions. Validate the implementation of corrective measures and remediation plans to address identified privacy risks. Monitoring: Stay informed about global privacy laws, regulations, and industry standards. Monitor external privacy developments and internal organizational changes for their impact on privacy practices. Reporting: Generate reports to communicate monitoring and testing outcomes to senior management and stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications:

Extensive experience in an auditing or testing capacity, preferably within a highly regulated sector. Proven experience in developing and implementing monitoring and testing programs within an organization. Demonstrated expertise in risk and control assessment. In-depth understanding of privacy or compliance laws and regulations. Strong written and verbal communication skills that provide quality, actionable feedback to management regarding potential control issues and solutions to address gaps. Exceptional problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a strong capacity to interpret data effectively. Excellent relationship-building skills to collaborate effectively across diverse, cross-functional teams in complex and rapidly evolving environments. Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and prioritize competing demands under tight deadlines. Proficiency with MS Office tools.

Additional/Preferred Qualifications:

University degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field. Professional Certification in audit, risk management, privacy, compliance, or a related field is advantageous.
