Role Summary

What is the opportunity?

As a Privacy Compliance Specialist at the Royal Bank of Canada, you will play a crucial role in ensuring adherence to privacy regulations across various business units. This position is vital for fostering a culture of privacy and compliance within the organization.

The ideal candidate will primarily focus on privacy matters within the UK and Ireland, while also collaborating with global privacy teams as the organization continues its integration with its parent company.


Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a privacy expert, providing guidance and support to Data Protection Officers and senior management on privacy compliance, particularly for the UK and Ireland.
  • Evaluate projects and services for compliance with privacy regulations, conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), and identify potential privacy risks.
  • Assist in the development and enhancement of the Global Privacy Program, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and fostering a corporate culture that values privacy.
  • Support regional Data Protection Officers in their regulatory duties and represent them when necessary.
  • Collaborate with various departments to identify and manage privacy risks, ensuring proper documentation and reporting through established risk management processes.
  • Help maintain the organization's Record of Processing Activities.
  • Coordinate responses to inquiries and requests related to data subject rights from clients and employees.
  • Provide support in managing data incidents and breaches in accordance with privacy legislation and internal policies.

Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience in privacy management with a strong ethical approach to data handling.
  • In-depth knowledge of data protection laws and regulations in the UK and/or Ireland, with practical experience in applying these laws.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and planning skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex issues to diverse audiences.
  • Experience in implementing privacy programs across multiple jurisdictions is preferred.


Desirable Skills

  • Experience in the financial services sector within a large multinational organization is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with formal risk management processes is preferred.
  • Higher education qualifications such as A Levels or a Degree are desirable.
  • Privacy certifications (e.g., CIPP/E or Practitioner Certificate) are highly regarded.
