Role Summary

What is the opportunity?

As a Privacy Compliance Specialist at the Royal Bank of Canada, you will play a crucial role in ensuring adherence to privacy regulations across various business sectors. This position offers a unique chance to collaborate with diverse teams and contribute to the organization's commitment to privacy excellence.


Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a privacy authority, providing guidance and support to Data Protection Officers (DPOs) and the Head of Data Protection across the UK, Europe, and APAC regions.
  • Evaluate projects and initiatives for compliance with privacy standards, conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), and advise on privacy by design principles to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Assist in the enhancement of the Global Privacy Program, ensuring compliance with relevant privacy laws and fostering a culture of trust and respect for privacy within the organization.
  • Support DPOs in fulfilling their regulatory responsibilities and represent them when necessary.
  • Collaborate with various business units to document and manage privacy risks, providing recommendations for mitigation and reporting on risk status through established organizational processes.
  • Help maintain the organization's Record of Processing Activities.
  • Coordinate responses to inquiries and requests related to data subject rights, privacy concerns, and complaints.
  • Provide support in managing data incidents and breaches in accordance with privacy legislation and internal policies.

Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Strong background in privacy and data protection, with a proven ethical approach to data management.
  • In-depth knowledge of data protection laws and regulations applicable in the UK and/or Ireland, with practical experience in their application.
  • Excellent organizational, documentation, and planning skills.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities, capable of conveying complex privacy issues to diverse audiences and building positive stakeholder relationships.
  • Experience in implementing cross-company privacy initiatives is preferred.


Desirable Skills

  • Experience in the Financial Services sector within a large multinational organization is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with formal risk management practices is preferred.
  • Higher education qualifications such as A Levels or a Degree (or equivalent) are desirable.
  • Privacy certifications (e.g., CIPP/E or Practitioner Certificate) are highly regarded.
