The Global Privacy Oversight team serves as trusted advisors on the principles of Data Protection and Privacy at American Express. Our mission is to enhance privacy awareness, ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements, and position privacy as a key differentiator for our brand.

As a pivotal second line of defense, the Global Privacy team provides expertise and oversight in identifying, managing, and mitigating privacy risks in alignment with our privacy framework and vision of delivering the best customer experience globally.

This role is based in the United Kingdom and reports directly to the Director of Global Privacy Risk Oversight.

Key Responsibilities include:


The Senior Manager for Privacy Monitoring and Testing will spearhead the monitoring and evaluation activities within our privacy program. This role involves developing and executing strategies to assess compliance with privacy laws, regulations, and the Data Protection and Privacy Principles of American Express. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in auditing or testing, alongside exceptional analytical skills and a genuine interest in data protection and privacy.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Strategy Development: Formulate and implement a robust monitoring and testing strategy to evaluate compliance with privacy laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Coordination: Collaborate with privacy specialists, business units, legal advisors, and other stakeholders to establish monitoring and testing objectives and priorities. Create testing plans and procedures to assess the effectiveness of privacy controls and practices.
  • Testing and Validation: Execute tests on privacy controls and processes, recommending corrective actions as necessary. Validate the execution of remediation plans to address identified privacy risks.
  • Continuous Monitoring: Stay informed about global privacy laws, regulations, and industry standards. Monitor changes in the external privacy landscape and internal company developments for their impact on privacy practices.
  • Reporting: Generate reports to communicate monitoring and testing outcomes to senior management and relevant stakeholders.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in an auditing or testing capacity, preferably within a highly regulated environment.
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing monitoring and testing initiatives.
  • Demonstrated expertise in risk and control assessment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of privacy and compliance laws and regulations.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to provide constructive feedback to management regarding potential control issues and solutions.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a talent for interpreting data effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate across diverse teams in dynamic environments.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and prioritize effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
Additional/Preferred Qualifications:
  • University degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
  • Professional certification in auditing, risk management, privacy, compliance, or a related discipline is advantageous.
