Role Summary

What is the opportunity?

As the Assistant Manager of Privacy within the RBC Brewin Dolphin Privacy Team, you will play a crucial role in enhancing privacy compliance across various business functions. This position is vital for ensuring adherence to privacy regulations, primarily focusing on the UK and Ireland, while also collaborating with global privacy teams as integration with our parent company progresses.


Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a privacy expert, providing guidance and support to Data Protection Officers (DPOs) primarily for the UK and Ireland, while also extending assistance to other regions as necessary.
  • Evaluate projects, initiatives, and services for compliance with privacy standards, conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), and advise on privacy by design principles.
  • Facilitate the integration process by ensuring that interim and future operational models meet privacy compliance requirements.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of the Global Privacy Program, ensuring compliance with relevant privacy laws and internal policies, while promoting a culture of privacy awareness within the organization.
  • Assist regional DPOs with their regulatory responsibilities and reporting obligations.
  • Collaborate with various business units to identify and manage privacy risks, documenting and tracking these risks while recommending appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Support the development and maintenance of the Record of Processing Activities.
  • Manage responses to data subject rights requests and address privacy-related inquiries and complaints from clients and employees.
  • Provide support in the management of data incidents and breaches, ensuring alignment with privacy legislation and organizational policies.

Qualifications for Success

Essential Skills

  • Strong background in privacy management and a commitment to ethical data practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of data protection laws and regulations in the UK and/or Ireland, with practical experience in their application.
  • Excellent organizational, documentation, and planning abilities.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, capable of articulating complex privacy issues to diverse audiences and fostering positive stakeholder relationships.


Preferred Skills

  • Experience in the Financial Services sector within a large multinational organization is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with formal risk management processes is preferred.
  • Higher education qualifications such as A Levels or a Degree (or equivalent) are desirable.
  • Privacy certifications (e.g., CIPP/E or Practitioner Certificate) are highly regarded.
