Position Summary
We are looking for a Senior Underwriter to join our North American Casualty division, a role created in response to our growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate complex submissions, including applications, policy wording, inspection reports, loss runs, and financial documents, while conducting thorough research to assess the risk associated with each account.
- Determine appropriate risk premiums by analyzing risk costs specific to the sector, reinsurance arrangements, and general administrative expenses to ensure profitability.
- Contribute to the strategic direction of the North American Casualty portfolio to meet business objectives while operating within individual authority limits.
- Establish and nurture effective relationships with brokers and clients, identifying and managing new business opportunities and Coverholder arrangements that align with our risk appetite.
- Assist in the business planning and forecasting process; monitor financial exposure within established limits; ensure premium income remains within set thresholds.
- Maintain awareness of all reported claims and provide input on their resolution.
- Perform tasks in accordance with established procedures while exercising discretion as needed.
- Strategically plan for sales and business development, utilizing various techniques and tools to support profitable growth over time.
- Conduct negotiations with brokers and clients to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
- Analyze and solve complex problems to inform key business decisions.
- Develop strong interpersonal relationships with brokers, clients, and colleagues to enhance personal profile and reputation within Rokstone and the wider market.
- Make informed underwriting decisions that align with business strategies and deliver results.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience in North American Casualty.
- In-depth knowledge of North American Casualty underwriting principles and practices.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience in the insurance sector.
- Chartered Insurance Institute qualifications or similar credentials are advantageous.
